Congratulations to the Asbury Festhalle and Biergarten, winners of the 5th annual Music Saved My Life Charity Softball Tournament. The Biergarten emerged victorious among the 12 teams that played jn the tournament, including Biergarten, Asbury Park City Council, Asbury Park Fire (powered by RentAsburyPark.com), Asbury Park Police (powered by iStar), Gold Group, Kivvit, Madison Marquette, New Jersey Natural Gas, Smith Group, Sackman Enterprises, Watermark, and 1st Constitution Bank. Members from the Asbury Park Music Foundation filled in for missing players from Team NJNG and Team GoMoHealth. The teams were fueled by breakfast sandwiches prepared by Kula Cafe, and lunch from Jersey Mike Sandwiches and hot dogs donated by Windmill. The first pitch was thrown by Chris Femiano. It was a beautiful June day, perfect for softball and music. EmmaLynne DeRoss sang the national anthem and Maya Iglesias sang “America the Beautiful.” Students from the Asbury Park High School vocal program “The Voices” performed several songs during the tournament. This program was created and funded by money raised by the tournament in 2017 -2018. The music was cut short when a transformer blew and cut power to our sound! But the games played on and at the end of the bracket, two teams, Kivvit and Biergarten played to the end with Asbury Festhalle and Biergarten winning the trophy!
