Battery Electric is one of the best bands that hail from Asbury Park. Recently, the band urged their fans to tweet famed director, Kevin Smith (originally from Highlands, NJ) about getting their new song “Get Me Out Of Here” to appear in the long awaited sequel to Mallrats, entitled “Mallbrats”.
Asbury Park’s Battery Electric rock band has a message for film director Kevin Smith: We’ll put the charge into your “Mallrats” sequel.
Smith, a native of Highlands, has let it be known that he’s interested in up-and-coming musicians, rather than established bands, for the soundtrack of “Mallrats” sequel, “Mallbrats,” according to DenofGeek.com.
The Battery Electric has the music. They’ve asked their fans to tweet Smith as well.
“We have one song, ‘Get Me Outta Here,’ it’s pretty much about getting out of that 9-top-5 lifestyle deal we grew up with,” said Battery Electric frontman Ron Santee said.
“Get Me Outta Here,” from the band’s latest album, “The Heart and the Thrill,” is a big-muscled, fist pumping anthem of non-conformity.
Santee shares common roots with Smith — they both went to Henry Hudson Regional High Shcool in Atlantic Highlands. Santee was a student of Smith’s when he briefly taught film lessons at the school.
“They stopped doing it because of the bad language,” Santee said. “He’s the most successful dude from the high school– c’mon man.”
The filming of “Mallbrats” begins in January, Smith has said.
